Microsoft was working on an Xbox Portable console

Given the success that portable consoles have had throughout history, Microsoft has never chosen to offer an Xbox Portable. Currently, the popularity of portable devices such as the Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch is undeniable, and some companies are even betting on the launch of consoles dedicated to game streaming, such as the Logitech G Cloud. And this has led many users to wonder why we haven't seen a portable Xbox console.

According to information that The Verge managed to access Microsoft had plans to launch a console cloud gaming laptop. Apparently, at Microsoft's offices, a prototype Xbox portable console focused solely and exclusively on the cloud was created, to make the most of xCloud. In fact, despite the extent the service has across devices of all types, Tom Warren says the company was very close to launching this console last year.

The CMA's decision to block the purchase of Activision Blizzard would have been one of the reasons for Microsoft's cancellation of the Xbox Portable.
