Fans of The Witcher have heavily criticized the Netflix series and its creative team in the last month: according to them, the entire writing team of the show didn't like the original story, in fact, they even made fun Andrzej Sapkowski's books and CD Projekt Red's video games. At this point, the showrunner of the series, Lauren S. Hissrich , recently responded to these criticisms.

The Witcher, the showrunner responds to the criticisms: “I love the books and the original series games”

On social media, amid multiple negative comments dedicated to the Netflix series The Witcher , Hissrich claimed that, in fact, she is a big fan of Andrzej Sapkowski's books:

If you look at any interviews I've ever done, including those with the author of the original story, you'll see that I'm a true fan of the books. And games. Do you believe everything a person says, always assuming it's a hard fact? This statement is not true. I love books. I'm a sucker at games, but that's my problem in this case, not yours.

she She later added:

I've never made fun of the books in the Witcher saga... Indeed, books are my main source of inspiration, I have an excellent relationship with Mr. Sapkowski and my writers are reliable and professional. Don't believe everything you read. I have great respect for Beau and the episodes he wrote! The striga episode is one of my favourites. He wrote the events at Kaer Morhen and Eskel's death, which had a lot of backlash in the rest of the story, but he was brave in telling what he wanted to tell. I respect that.

While some of the writing team were found to actually dislike the original works of The Witcher, the showrunner went on to point out how disastrous these criticisms from fans are. In fact, many have believed that the actor Henry Cavill has announced his exit from the series also for this lack of relevance to the original saga.

Cavill, who has consistently shown a passion for The Witcher books and games, does not has publicly confirmed or denied whether this influenced the reasons for his decision. However, it was reported not too long ago that he did not always agree with the producers and direction of the Netflix series. There was talk of recasting the role of Geralt of Rivia already in the post-production phase of the second season.

Now , from season 4 onwards, the witcher will be played by actor Liam Hemsworth , who originally auditioned for the role in 2018, when the show was still in the casting process. He had proven to be a preferred candidate, although the role ultimately went to Cavill, who had pursued it before casting began. Meanwhile, we will be able to see Cavill as Geralt one last time in the third season of The Witcher, which will air in the summer of 2023.
