There is a right way to put thermal paste on the GPU - here's what it is

There are several ways to apply thermal paste to a CPU or GPU: there are those who use the grain of rice technique and those who use the cross, but there are different currents of thought in this regard. Igor Wallossek of Igor's Lab tried to give a definitive answer to the question: "what is the best method for applying thermal paste?". To reach an objective conclusion, Igor carried out several tests, discovering that the best method allowed to lower the temperature by as much as five degrees Celsius compared to the worst one.

First of all, before each application it is necessary to remove the perfection of the residues of the previous thermal paste. Also, there are some differences between GPU and CPU. In fact, on GPUs Igor does not recommend using the popular Arctic MX-2 or MX-4, for which he prefers products like Alphacool Apex or Gelix PC Extreme. In addition, the tube should be warmed up a little with the thermal paste (even by simply putting it in your pocket), as well as the GPU (perhaps with the help of a hairdryer), before application. These expedients could be useful to keep viscous pastes easily workable.
