Polestar's sports car will compete with the Porsche 911

Earlier this month, Polestar (a subsidiary of Volvo), unveiled its intention to develop a supercar capable of competing with the most historic brands using the O2 concept as a basis. Now, a few weeks later, we know that Polestar 6 will become a true top of the range characterized by the presence of an 800 volt electrical architecture, two electric engines and a combined power of almost 900 horsepower. Unknown autonomy but with a fast recharge at 350 kW, even with sustained consumption, Polestar believes that there will be no problems in this regard.

While it is estimated that the high-power version will have a price of around 200 thousand dollars, and will probably also arrive in Italy as anticipated in our interview, it is assumed that models with lower power will also be available. In any case, Polestar 6 will be an exclusive car as anticipated by the CEO to Top Gear microphones; the electric supercar will be one of a kind, from the design to the soundtrack. Which segment will Polestar 6 fit into? The brand aims to surpass the performance of Porsche 911, the sports car by definition and reference. For the Swedish brand this is a rather difficult task, especially since the German brand itself has declared that the electric 911 will be the last Porsche to be electrified and will therefore have room to maneuver to create a decidedly high-performance and technological solution.

While Polestar 6 will arrive on the market only in 2026, in four years, the electric Porsche 911 will be ready in 2030 following the debut of Macan and the other proposals still not completely “green”. The climb of Polestar, as anticipated, will be really difficult both in terms of performance, commensurate with the price, and for the recognition of the brand. Over the next few months the first forklifts will begin to circulate and only then will we be able to understand the shapes and sizes; we just have to wait.
