Unity: The new 4K tech demo is really impressive

Unity

While waiting to find out if Unity will really pass into the hands of a well-known US mobile app services developer, the team behind the engine continues to work, and at SIGGRAPH 2022 has unveiled a new tech demo. This is nothing new: the engines are often "advertised" with special demos, aimed at showing the potential of the engines.

The new Unity tech demo is dedicated to PS5 and is called Lion. Clearly it is very impressive and was created using various tools compatible with the engine. Among these we find Weta Digital (recently acquired by the company that produces the graphics engine), SpeedTree, Ziva and SyncSketch. The demo shown ran in 4K and 60 frames per second, but what amazed was the hair of the lion, the real protagonist of the tech demo, rendered using a new technology from Weta Digital, dedicated to hair and furs, called Wig.| ); }
The Unity demo, while impressive, is still stuck at 30 frames per second. A necessary compromise, if the target hardware is that of PS5, still reluctant to support certain games at 60 frames per second without compromising graphics quality and resolution. Unity man arrested after standoff with police

A Unity man was arrested Tuesday after a confrontation with police officers.

Aaron Nickerson, 47, faces 10 charges, including kidnapping and terrorizing.

Police were sent to a Montville residence to deal with a domestic violence situation, but it unraveled with Nickerson allegedly causing a standoff.

“Obviously, these charges, the new charges, are extremely serious. Some of the most serious I’ve ever seen here in Waldo County short of an actual murder charge,” Judge Eric Walker said Wednesday as Nickerson made his initial appearance virtually in Waldo County Superior Court.

Nickerson will be back in court next month.
