GTA: One of the original creators infringed the copyright of Rockstar Games

GTA

Imagine that you spent the early 90s working on the first GTA, only to find yourself Rockstar Games, the rights holder, notifying you of a copyright infringement because of some materials that you have worked on and that you have published on the internet. A decidedly absurd situation, which could almost give you a nervous breakdown, and no, unfortunately it is not a fantasy.

The whole affair involves Mike Dailly, British developer and founder of DMA Design , development team that gave life to the GTA series. Today DMA Design no longer exists and has been renamed Rockstar North, and obviously holds the rights to the brand. Rights that it exercises whenever it is granted, as in the case of Dailly, who uploaded some prototypes and disseminated some game design documents on her YouTube channel, which were subsequently removed.

The situation is certainly not the best, and despite Dailly's anger, we fully understand that Rockstar Games has every right to do so. The law must always be respected, but it is clear that very often common sense is also needed by companies, especially when certain content is really very old and does not risk in any way damaging the image of the rights holders. We sincerely hope that Rockstar Games can retrace its steps and grant Dailly all the freedoms required.
