The Game of Thrones universe is expanding: a spinoff on Jon Snow is coming

The Game of Thrones universe is expanding

Comes directly from The Hoolywood Reporter a bomb indiscretion on the television future of Game of Thrones, a series based on the novels of George Martin. Apparently HBO would be working on a spinoff centered around Jon Snow, a well-known character from the show played by Kit Harrington.

A spinoff about Jon Snow is coming

The new series is expected to be set after the Game of Thrones season eight finale which saw Jon Snow being exiled to the far north of Westeros. Several characters from the main show who have remained alive may also appear, continuing their stories in this way.

In several past interviews the actor had stated that he was done with that role which had cost him nearly 10 years of commitment and sacrifice, often extreme, but apparently he should have changed his mind. Meanwhile, Kit Harrington has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe by appearing in Eternals as Dane Whitman (a character that we will also see again in Blade).

If confirmed, the one on Jon Snow would be just one of the numerous Game of Thrones themed projects in the pipeline. Next on the list is House of the Dragon, a Game of Thrones spin-off / prequel starring the House of Targaryen. It will be set 200 years before the events narrated in the main series, which has become one of HBO's biggest hits.

The first episode will arrive on the streaming platform on August 21, while in Italy it will be visible on Sky / NOW in contemporary with the American broadcast. The show will have a very different tone to Game of Thrones, but it will respect the nature of the original series. The presence of numerous dragons has also been confirmed, creatures that were in short supply on the show that aired for 8 seasons.

Game of Thrones fans are asking for another sequel series – with Arya

A Jon Snow series is in the works, but Game of Thrones fans have taken to social media to pitch another sequel idea: West of Westeros with Maisie Williams’ Arya Stark. The Game of Thrones season 8 finale saw the youngest Stark child set her sights out west, setting sail for the unexplored region away from Westeros.

For many, it still feels like the perfect setup for a Thrones spin-off. One wrote on Twitter, 'Give us an Arya sequel! She’s sailing around the world & she’s a trained assassin now.' Another added, 'Give us the Arya Stark sequel you cowards!'

Others were more outspoken: 'Was Maisie Williams busy? Why would you go back to ‘Man who literally does nothing for eight seasons’ instead of ‘Girl who decides to go exploring the unknown’ like VERY OBVIOUSLY ‘Arya Stark and the Dawn Treaders’ is the sequel series. What are we doing?' Another said, 'Sorry, I'd rather an Arya Stark sequel series instead. Focus on the one and only living character they didn't ruin.'

Some have even latched on to the catchy West of Westeros name to signal their demands for a sequel series. 'West of Westeros (WoW), gets my vote,' wrote one. One fan commented, 'The people want to know what’s west of Westeros!!!'

Even if an Arya sequel doesn’t come to pass, Game of Thrones is still expanding its universe in other ways. A Targaryen-set prequel, House of the Dragon, is hitting HBO in August. Creator George R.R. Martin has also recently updated fans on two more projects, The Sea Snake and Ten Thousand Ships. Both are currently in pre-production.
