The Sacco and Fatebenefratelli hospitals suffered a hacker attack

On May 1st, the Milanese Sacco and Fatebenefratelli hospitals were hit by a cyber attack, the entity of which has put out of use all the systems of the healthcare companies in question, with the blocking of the booking system and very serious inconveniences in the context of the emergency room . The consequences of the attack affected all the offices of the healthcare company, including the 33 local offices, with very serious repercussions on patient acceptance and outpatient services. The emergencies have all been diverted to other hospitals in the Milan area, in the meantime the system restoration activities have begun, but the times for which have not been defined. Regional cyber security services and the Postal Police have also been alerted.

The health sector is often a privileged target of cybercriminals, and ransomware-type attacks are very often perpetrated against hospitals, sometimes even with victims, as happened in Germany, where a patient died because the hospital in Düsseldorf could not provide adequate support due to a system crash caused by a ransomware attack.

Ransomware can also cause victims, depending on the contexts in which the attacks take place.
