Digital identity in Italy Thanks to digital identity, the Public Administration provides simple and secure access to its online services. In addition to Spid users, there are 28 million citizens in possession of the Electronic Identity Card. To access public online services at any time, you can choose between the Public Digital Identity System (Spid) and the Electronic Identity Card (Cie). With Spid and Cie, for example, you can request a change of residence or a certificate online, book a health service, send your tax return, consult your tax or social security situation, access bonuses, social safety nets or fill out the 'Isee. All in just a few clicks and without the need to remember many different passwords for each service. Access is possible whenever, on a site or a service app, the "Enter with Spid" or alternatively "Enter with Cie" button is present.
How to request Spid To date, for to obtain Spid it is necessary to be of age and in possession of a valid Italian identity document, health card or tax code, an email address and a mobile number. To activate it, you must contact one of the digital identity managers authorized by the Agency for Digital Italy (AgID). The citizen will thus have a single digital identity available, which can be used by computers, tablets and smartphones. The identity is made up of a strictly personal username and password, with which it is possible to access the online services of the Public Administration and private members in a safe and secure way, thanks also to security checks which, in many cases, provide for the sending of a temporary password (OTP - one time password) to be entered during authentication.
