AMD Zen 5 delayed due to Intel and Apple?

The capitalization of Intel and Apple of TSMC's 3nm production node could cause a postponement of future AMD Zen 5 CPUs, according to a new report that emerged on DigiTimes and reported by colleagues at Wccftech. As specified in the report, in fact, the node is considered of primary importance by the two large companies, which with their investments have managed to acquire a higher priority than the rest of the Taiwanese foundry's customers.

According to Wccftech, if AMD confirm the decision to use the 3nm node for your Zen 5 architecture, in this case you would have three options: the first is to postpone the production of the chips for 2024/2025, thus dictating a cadence of two years between a generation and the other one. The second option would be to stay with the 5nm production process, however, making use of the N5P node, a much more optimized version of the node already in use by AMD itself for the production of the next Zen 4 CPUs and by Nvidia for its GPUs. The third and most unlikely, would concern a renegotiation with TSMC of access to the 3nm node, which would ensure at best a much more limited production for 2024.
