AMD and Qualcomm together for faster Wi-Fi on Ryzen notebooks

In a press release, AMD announced that it has entered into an agreement with Qualcomm to bring FastConnect technology to business notebooks equipped with Ryzen processors starting with models equipped with Ryzen Pro 6000 series and Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 CPUs, among which we can include the HP series Elitebook 805 and Lenovo Thinkpad Z.

The system will allow devices to use the Windows 11 Dual Station Wi-Fi mode to exploit multiple bands simultaneously in order to reduce latency and increase data transmission speed, to the benefit of applications such as video calls, which have become even more fundamental after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, thanks to the use of the 6GHz bands of the Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E networks, there will certainly be, at least for the moment, less room for any interference, unlike those at 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Another typical situation that can benefit from FastConnect technology is remote management of PCs, especially through the AMD Manageability Processor solution.

Out-of-band Wi-Fi remote management is an important tool for corporate IT managers to diagnose and resolve problems, even when the operating system is not running. AMD Ryzen PRO 6000 Series processors with Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 enable next-generation business laptops to have the computing and connectivity tools needed to operate in modern environments, providing professional-grade remote manageability for users of the new hybrid workplace.

Dino Bekis, vice president general manager of Qualcomm's Mobile Compute and Connectivity division, added:

Our partnership with AMD reflects Qualcomm Technologies' commitment to mobile computing . By optimizing FastConnect 6900 for platforms equipped with AMD Ryzen 6000 Series processors, we are bringing secure Wi-Fi remote management to AMD enterprise customers. This represents the first step in our report to bring superior wireless connectivity to AMD's mobile computing roadmap.
