PlayStation could acquire FromSoftware
According to what was reported by the insider Dr. Serkan Toto, PlayStation would like to acquire FromSoftware, the studio of Elden Ring and the Souls series, among others. Toto is not only a well-known and trusted insider, but he is also the CEO of Kantan Games, a consulting company active in the video game industry.Actually this isn't the first time rumors have been circulating about a potential acquisition of FromSoftware by Sony, also given the close relationship between the two companies. Except the most recent turned out to be April Fool's Day. In this case, however, the source is much more credible and hardly spread any unfounded rumors.
According to Dr. Serkan Toto the deal is still being evaluated, also because we imagine that Kadokawa, the current owner of FromSoftware, will ask for a lot after the stellar success of Elden Ring. In fact, it should deprive itself of its flagship software house.
Kadokawa acquired 80% of FromSoftware in 2014, taking over them for $ 22.5 million from the company Transcosmos, evidently eager to get rid of its video game business , which sold off one of the world's highest-rated development studios.
Consider that in 2014 Demon's Souls had been around for years, Dark Souls were already a reality and FromSoftware was partnering with Sony at Bloodborne. So it was already worth much more than it was paid for and already had a globally recognized reputation. As mentioned, it was a real sell-off, which Kadokawa took advantage of. Be that as it may, a month after the deal, Kadokawa acquired the remaining 20% of the shares, taking full ownership of FromSoftware. At the time, one of the transcosmos executives was Takeshi Natsuno, who became the president of Kadokawa in 2021.
Of course, as pointed out by the insider himself, the acquisition is far from certain and concluded, given that it is still in the very early stages, which could lead to absolutely nothing.

PlayStation To Acquire From Software, Claims Popular Gaming Insider
PlayStation might be gearing up to acquire From Software as per a latest report published by one of the most prominent analysts in the gaming industry.
According to a new report posted by popular gaming analyst and insider Dr. Serkan Toto who is also the CEO of Tokyo-based game industry consultancy Kantan Games, From Software is rumored to be M&A (merger and acquisition) candidate by Sony. He goes on to give us a rundown of the company’s history, with dates back to 1986 when it started as a B2B software developer. One of its projects was a pig-feeding management program, and that is quite a unique background despite the trend being quite common in Japanese Studios.

This is not the first time we have heard about an acquisition of From Software by Sony, as the rumors have been making rounds for a few weeks now. In fact, a number of people had used social media to state that the acquisition has been completed, but it was only an April Fool’s joke back then. Well considering how rampant the rumors were, many did end up believing it a few weeks ago. However, unlike the other times, the source stating the information is much more credible and that is what makes it so believable this time around.
If this news actually turns out to be true and Sony does end up acquiring From Software, it could end up to be as one of the biggest acquisitions in the history of the gaming industry after the likes of Activision. It is quite surprising to see that From Software is open to acquisitions, to begin with, considering that the developers had pretty much a dream run with Elden Ring as it is still dominating the sales charts even several weeks after launch. Whatever the case is, with Sony already suggesting that new acquisitions are coming, it shouldn’t be long before we hear more about this.
