A fine for distributors and car parks without charging stations

This is the proposal that the Vancouver government wants to apply for all those places that still today do not have a charging solution for all those motorists who have already embraced electric mobility. For predisposed sites that are unable to install a charging solution in a short time, the Government will apply an annual surcharge of approximately $ 8,000 per year in order to encourage the installation of columns.

To avoid the sanction, the Government suggests that even the presence of 50 kW columns alone could be temporarily adequate so as to allow an autonomy of about 20-50 km in one hour of recharging. Vancouver City Hall believes the program would accelerate the launch of electric charging points in the city and encourage drivers to switch to electric vehicles. A 2021 survey of 12,000 Vancouver residents found that limited availability of charging options dissuaded drivers from abandoning their ICE vehicles for electric cars.
