The Australian Open becomes the first NFT tennis tournament

The popular Australian Open tennis tournament, part of the so-called Grand Slam circuit, is releasing a collection of 6,776 non-fungible tokens, along with a virtual event of a competition on the Decentraland metaverse platform.

Every hit to win of the 600 games in the tournament will correspond to one of the NFTs in the collection. Owners will receive an airdrop featuring spot footage, virtual wearables and Australian Open merchandise, according to a press release.

Extracted data, which will allow NFTs to be matched, will come from the same technology Hawk-Eye used to judge game play points.
