PS5 unobtainable? Not in the Gaza Strip

Christmas is approaching and everyone wants a PS5, which is, however, almost impossible to find. In fact, there is one place where it would be easy to buy it: the Gaza Strip. The price, however, is not for all budgets.

Through a report by The Guardian, we discover that in Gaza City there are some shops displaying unsold PS5s. One example is Hassan al-Baik's electronics store which has five PS5s and claims: "There is no great demand for consoles in Gaza as the price is still high." Baik says his customers are mostly gaming cafes and arcades.

Baik explains that the first PS5s arrived in Gaza in April 2021 thanks to smuggling. They were bought in Dubai, disassembled, smuggled through Egypt and then reassembled in Gaza. A PS5 was sold for around 1,400 euros. In recent months, however, Israel has allowed the entry of goods, however with a surcharge, which brings the console to a figure between € 900 and € 1,000.

The Guardian states that in the city at least three stores regularly have PS5 available. Adham Masri, a salesman at Mobile Zone, says he sells three to five consoles a month, but "demand is limited."

PS5 Baik explains that Xbox Series X is also available, but demand is minimal and recently sold only two consoles.

Obviously Gaza Strip residents have more serious problems than buying a PS5, including trade embargoes, almost 50% unemployment and more.
