Dark Souls awarded Best Game Ever at the 2021 Golden Joystick Awards

Dark Souls was awarded as the best game ever at the Golden Joystick Awards 2021: a choice that is causing debate, not so much for the undoubted quality of the From Software title, but for the sense of such recognition.

Last night we compiled the list of winners of the Golden Joystick Awards 2021, with Resident Evil Village elected Game of the Year, but GamesRadar thought it was appropriate to provide some explanations about the award given to the Best Video Game of All Time.

Joe Donnelly's article takes it very broadly, reaffirming the extraordinary atmosphere of the original Dark Souls and its ability to invent a real sub-genre, all this ten years ago now. The point is, however, that it is still talked about and will continue to be talked about.

In short, the game itself has not been rewarded, but rather what it meant, the change it triggered in the gaming world and what this change has produced in terms of mechanics, challenge, structure and so on.

A tradition that we obviously hope to find in Elden Ring, which we tried a few days ago and promises a further step forward for the vision of Hidetaka Miyazaki.
