How is a Porsche 911 born? A documentary tells it

Few supercars in the world are as iconic and easily recognizable as the Porsche 911; a model that for years has made many fans fall in love and has been the protagonist of an endless series of films. Now, a video full of information and curiosities lays bare this fantastic piece of history now in its 11th version.

The documentary signed WELT Documentary (in English), which we report below, and published on the homonymous YouTube channel highlights all the procedures necessary to build the supercar by definition of the Stuttgart brand. The plant is not only involved in the production of the 911, but also the 718 Cayman and Boxter. Basically, the plant is dedicated to the production of two-door Porsches (with or without roof), with the two mid-engined seats moving forward at 2 meters per minute. In total, the maximum number of cars produced per day is 250 units, with about 3 thousand people at work.

The film does not focus exclusively on the latest addition, the Porsche 992, but tells some anecdotes related to the past, as the original name which should have been 901 rather than the one we all know today. The reason behind this name change would be linked to a dispute with a famous French brand, whose name we do not want to reveal to you so as not to make an excessive spoiler. The very long (and detailed) video also highlights some information related to the world of restoration and in particular to vintage Porsches, waiting for them to be reviewed by the factory's specialized workers.

The current 992 will probably be the last fully endothermic model and a hybrid variant is expected in the future. Like many other supercar manufacturers, it is widely expected that Porsche will decide to integrate a small hybrid unit so as not to "distort" too much the characteristics of the iconic 911. The electric version will arrive, only not so soon.
