Quakecon: This year, too, the event is purely virtual

Quakecon

QuakeCon first took place in 1996 and is therefore one of the most valued gaming celebrations in the world. In the meantime, the format of the convention has changed a lot, but numerous titles are still shown. Due to the current Covid pandemic, QuakeCon 2020 had to take place completely online and this will not be any different this year.

The main attraction of the event are live streams, which are supposed to show "updates on existing and future titles" . We can probably look forward to a new trailer for Deathloop. There will also be some tournaments and raffles again. According to the organizers, puppies will also be there, making QuakeCon one of the best gaming events of the year.

A big aspect of QuakeCon is that participants should bring their own PC (BYOC). With these you can then organize huge LAN parties and play your favorite titles with the other gaming enthusiasts. This year's QuakeCon would like to adhere to this principle, which is why there will be a "virtual BYOC". So you should have your computer ready while you watch the QuakeCon on your computer. These LAN parties are a big part of the convention, but being asked to bring your own PC to a virtual convention is kind of weird. Perhaps the organizers expect that most of the users will watch on their cell phones.

Quakecon 2021 begins on August 19 at 8 p.m. local time and is expected to end on August 21. During the numerous streams and events, the convention collects donations for various charitable organizations such as Asian Americans Advancing Justice, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, The Trevor Project, and UNICEF. There will also be t-shirts in Doom Eternal and Deathloop designs. The proceeds from this sale will be donated to Animal Welfare Charities.

There is no exact schedule for the event yet, but the organizers have already set up their own Discord server.

QuakeCon returns as an online-only event on August 19th

The 2021 edition of QuakeCon will take place from August 19th-21st. Bethesda confirmed it will be an all-digital event for the second straight year. It's the first QuakeCon since Microsoft bought the publisher.

The event will feature updates about existing and upcoming games, as well as giveaways and tournaments. QuakeCon Twitch partners will be streaming throughout the event and encouraging viewers to donate to charities including Asian Americans Advancing Justice, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, The Trevor Project and UNICEF. Bethesda gave away a few Quake games last year after virtual attendees smashed donation targets.

The full schedule and more details will be revealed in the next few weeks. Last year's QuakeCon included panels on the likes of Fallout 76, Doom Eternal (which should make an appearance again this year) and The Elder Scrolls Online. It seems a little too soon for another look at Starfield after Bethesda and Xbox showed off a cinematic trailer at E3 last month, but you never know.
