CDPR: ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Patch 1.3 Is ‘On The Way’

Cyberpunk 2077 players will take any crumb of news they can, given how infrequently plans about the game are communicated, and that’s what we have to work with today.

Responding to a now-deleted tweet asking about when patch 1.3 was coming, Global Community lead at CDPR, Marcin Momot, responded that it was “on the way.”

This drew an eyes emoji from CDPR Senior Level Designer Miles Tost as well.

So, what does this tell us? More than you might think.

It implies that the next patch coming is not going to be a minor one, as 1.23 was the last one, so this isn’t going to be 1.25 or 1.28 or something, it’s a full 1.3, with 1.1 and 1.2 previously being major patches before this.

It’s not clear whether 1.3 will arrive with the launch of the promised free DLC which is supposed to come out by the end of the year, but it may very well lay the foundation for that. Datamining has uncovered both a list of supposed DLC names and some backend pathways that indicate this content is being tested. So I would not be surprised to see 1.3 be the launch of that content, which contains a few new gigs, new weapons, clothing, cars, poses and a few unknown items.

Some fans are worried that 1.3 is just going to be what 1.2 and 1.1 were, big patches, but ones that were almost entirely focused on hyper specific quest bugs and performance issues, not actually altering quality of life of the game or adding content, so we’ll have to see. CDPR’s Paweł Sasko has recently said it’s the bosses’ decision not to really preview patch content or DLC ahead of time.

CDPR has said that the stability of the game is in an acceptable state at this point, and they were shifting from fixing the game to creating new content, so 1.3 may be the first move in that direction. For me personally, I have been playing one of my old PC playthroughs the past few days, and yesterday the game crashed so hard I wasn’t able to boot it back up again at all, and it required a full uninstallation, re-download and re-installation. Not great.

The free DLC may be a reason for players to come back, but expectations have to be managed, as this is Witcher 3-level free DLC at best. It’s going to be a small handful of missions and a bunch of cosmetics mainly, although one thing it’s supposed to bring is New Game Plus, which I suppose is another 50+ hours of gameplay if you want to do the entire thing over again.

I will certainly be checking out 1.3 and the free DLC when they arrive, but I’m not sure if they’re separate or coming in one update. More to come soon, it seems.
