The Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon-based animated series is coming to Netflix!

The Far Cry 3

The big announcements continue on the occasion of Netflix Geeked Week. The streaming platform has grabbed the rights to Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, an animated series based on the famous Far Cry 3 expansion, titled Blood Dragon.

It was first announced two years ago ago, but the distribution method was not yet known. It will be divided into six episodes and will feature alter egos of Ubisoft characters in a clear homage to the 90s. It will be created and produced by the American director and producer of Indian origins, Adi Shankar.

In Far Cry 3: A Blood Dragon, expansion released in 2013 on consoles and PC, players take on the role of Sergeant Rex Power Colt, a Mark IV cyber commando sent to an island ravaged by nuclear war. The series will be supervised by the Ubisoft team consisting of Hélène Juguet, Hugo Revon and Gérard Guillemot.

Far Cry animated series A Blood Dragon arrives on Netflix

But that's not all, because Netflix has also announced that it is working on another Far Cry animated series, without going into specifics. We do not know, therefore, if it will be a completely original story or based on some chapter in particular of the Ubisoft franchise.

The partnership between Netflix and Ubisoft was announced in 2019 with the aim of creating a truly interconnected universe. The streaming platform is also working on an animated series of Splinter Cell, another great intellectual property of the well-known software house, which will be created by Derek Kolstad, screenwriter of John Wick.

In the meantime, the eyes of the fans are bet on the sixth chapter of Far Cry, which will see Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) as Yara's dictator, Anton Castillo. The full-bodied post-launch DLC has also already been unveiled.

Far Cry 6's season pass will include a remastered copy of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

Far Cry 6's season pass will include a remastered copy of fan-favourite Far Cry 3 DLC, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

Confirmation came during a reveal of Far Cry 6's season pass details, which also showed that the DLC lets you play as Vaas, Pagan Min, and Joseph Seed - villains from previous Far Cry games.

While, admittedly, the teaser doesn't tell us much, the neon colours that come in 30 seconds before the end of the trailer are unmistakable. Here, take a look:

Apparently, Blood Dragon will be 'fully loaded in a Classic Edition' and reward season pass owners with a set of Blood Dragon items within the Far Cry 6's main campaign, too, including a new fang for hire, plus a new vehicle, outfit, weapon, and weapon charms (thanks, TheGamer).

'Blood Dragon wears its idiocy like a shield,' we said in a glowing Eurogamer review at the time. 'With its mechanisms borrowed from a bona fide blockbuster and its cornball retro swagger rendering any artistic criticism surplus to requirements, all that's left is to have fun, and that's in plentiful supply.

'I still don't really know what Blood Dragon is, or how it relates to Far Cry 3, but more to the point: I don't care. If only more blockbusters had this much fun with their legacy.'

In case you missed it, there's a Splinter Cell, Far Cry, and Blood Dragon animated series coming to Netflix. Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix will be a neon-hued vapourware action that is - according to series creator and writer Adi Shankar - inspired by the likes of 'anime, Saturday morning cartoons, violent video games marketed to kids, pro wrestling, steel cage matches, cyberpunk dystopias' and the work of Paul Verhoeven and John Carpenter.
