Chivalry 2: The rush of players causes the server to collapse

Chivalry 2

The launch of the medieval multiplayer game Chivalry 2 was fired on June 9, 2021 - yesterday, Tuesday. There was already a lot of interest in the Open Beta that had just been held, but with the enormous rush for the release, the developers probably had not expected - with sometimes quite annoying consequences.

Shortly after the launch, the reports and complaints from the players about technical problems increased. At the top of the list were difficulties logging in. It seems that the servers of Chivalry 2 (buy now € 49.99 / € 35.99) were so overloaded shortly after the release that many players were unable to get into the real game. Some of them were able to overcome this hurdle, but ultimately flew off the servers a short time later due to connection problems. Those who were lucky enough to actually be able to play, however, had to struggle with non-functioning matchmaking and other problems.

What do the developers say?

A little later, the team from Torn Banner Studios spoke up via Twitter and openly admitted that they had been taken by surprise by the enormous onslaught.

"The number of players at the launch even has ours Exceeded all expectations. We'll do our best to make sure everyone can get in and play as soon as possible. That's our top priority. "

The team actually followed up his words with deeds. During the day there were fewer and fewer login problems. Although these have not completely disappeared at this point in time, the situation has noticeably improved. The matchmaking of Chivalry 2 should now work properly again.

Does Chivalry 2 support crossplay?: Everything you need to know

Indie title Chivalry: Medieval Warfare made waves when it released in 2012, bringing gritty warfare and brutal hand-to-hand combat to players all around the world.

After nearly a decade, the game has found itself a worthy successor in the form of Chivalry 2, that ups the ante in almost every avenue. Complete with an updated engine and 64 player lobbies, Chivalry 2 released on June 8th, 2021, and features a host of next gen features, but when it comes to crossplay, the situation isn't as straightforward.

On the topic of crossplay, the developers of Chivalry 2 had the following to share:

Cross-platform parties were not a planned feature for June 8 Launch. Our team has worked to pivot to review the possibility of providing the feature of cross-platform parties as quickly as possible. It will not be available at launch on June 8, but the team hopes to bring it online in an update once a development timeline is established.

While the statement from the developers about crossplay may seem non-committal in terms of a release date, players can take heart in the fact that the open beta hosted in May for Chivalry 2 supported crossplay and worked flawlessly for most players, so the release of crossplay for Chivalry 2 could be quite close.
