Another day in Epic's versus Apple litigation means more publicly available documents with all sorts of interesting information. Microsoft thought that Nintendo's lineup for 2020 would be a lot stronger than it actually was. The associated document has since been deleted, but IGN reports that Microsoft expected the titles The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, and Shin Megami Tensei 5 between October and December 2020. In addition, some titles are named that had or will not have their release until 2021, such as No More Heroes 3 and Bravely Default 2.

Of course, this was nothing more than speculation on the part of Microsoft, but it is interesting to see that they planned their game strategy around these blockbuster titles, which ultimately never came out. There were also some Xbox titles in the document, but three of them were edited. A few blocks from the first quarter of this year have also been removed, which could mean that Microsoft still has some previously unknown titles up its sleeve that should have been published already.

This is not the first document that has passed through the dispute comes to the public. We recently learned from Microsoft that they are big fans of The Last of Us Part 2, even if the gameplay didn't convince them.

'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2' Release Date Leaked In Xbox Documents

KEY POINTS
  • Nintendo announced 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2' at E3 2019
  • In February, Nintendo said it would offer more updates about the game before the year ends
  • Nintendo has not yet revealed when it plans to release 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2'
  • 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2' is one of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch titles. While the Japanese gaming giant has announced the sequel, it has not yet revealed its release date. Despite this, Microsoft's Xbox was apparently under the impression that 'BOTW 2' was scheduled to release in 2020 along with other big Nintendo titles.

Xbox overestimated Nintendo's lineup last year as it expected the Japanese company would release heavy-hitters like 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2,' 'Metroid Prime 4,' 'Bayonetta 3,' and 'Shin Megami Tensei 5.'

This information was taken from documents leaked from the Apple vs. Epic trial and reported by IGN. The court trial has produced some documents showing Microsoft's expectations from its competitors in 2020.

The said document, dated August 2020, has since been deleted following the site's report. It essentially intended to show what Xbox had to compete with.

However, it is worth noting that this has nothing to do with the official release date of Nintendo Switch games, especially 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.'

'The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild' could be a huge influence on 2017's rumored 'Zelda' mobile game. From shrines to runes, here are five concepts the iOS and Android app should borrow. 'Breath Of The Wild' is available on Switch and Wii U. Photo: Nintendo/YouTube

The Redmond-based tech titan is indeed more privy to its competitors' activities compared to the average fan. However, it does not necessarily mean that it knows anything about the release dates of its competitors' games, apps and other software. The release date is likely more of a guess.

Nintendo is notorious for being a secretive company, especially regarding the release dates of its upcoming products and games.

The Japanese gaming giant rarely announces anything or deliberately leaks anything until it's ready. Rumors about the release date of 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2' have been rife online because of many factors.

Many believe it would release in 2021 because the Zelda franchise celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. Others claim Nintendo would release the game as one of the launch titles of the rumored Nintendo Switch Pro. It is worth noting that these are just leaks and speculations and just like unofficial claims, fans should temper their expectations and take these details with a hefty amount of salt.

'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2' is currently being developed.
