PS5: new model with new 6nm CPU in 2022 for a report

PS5

We know, PS5 is selling very well, but at the same time it is selling less than it could, all due to the limited number of units that can be produced. How to solve? According to a new report, PlayStation will receive a new model in 2022 with a new 6nm CPU from AMD: this would solve the inventory problem.

The report comes from the Taiwanese site Digitimes (paid publication), reported then by Dr. Serkan Toto on Twitter. Toto says the newspaper repeatedly disclosed correct information in advance. This reports that the new PS5 model is expected to begin production and distribution between the second and third quarter of 2022. This new PS5 would feature a "new semi-custom 6nm CPU manufactured by AMD". A 5nm model, it is explained, would be too expensive.

As mentioned, we are talking about a credible source, but as always we are talking about a report, not official statements. It is possible that they are correct but not recent, too, or simply that Sony will change plans for the PS5 over the next few months.

Recently, in any case, the CFO Hiroki Totoki also explained that Sony evaluates several options to increase the availability of the console, among which the possibility of a redesign of the console is also included. The Digitimes report is also credible for this.
