The sad news came from prominent 'Battlefield' insider Tom Henderson. On Twitter, the insider claimed that 'Battlefield 6' would launch without a campaign. According to the insider, he had not heard of a campaign for the upcoming game and pointed out that it was strange that EA had failed to talk about it in its most recent earnings call.
During the game publisher's earnings call, there were discussions about a wide range of aspects of the next 'Battlefield' game, including its multiplayer component. But based on the transcript, the company did not mention anything related to the game's campaign.
'I had to look back at the past EA earnings calls, but this is the first earnings call where EA has not mentioned a campaign coming to this year's Battlefield,' Henderson noted.
'Could be something. ... Could be nothing. As I've mentioned for the past couple of months, I'm yet to hear of a campaign. It doesn't mean there isn't one, but it's very, very unusual to not hear of one in an info dump,' the insider said further.
The video game publisher did not mention the rumored battle royale mode during its recent earnings call, either.
Despite the avalanche of rumors surrounding 'Battlefield 6,' neither EA nor DICE has made an official statement about the game's campaign. 'Battlefield' is one of the biggest franchises in history, so it is understandable that rumors surface ahead of its grand reveal.
Meanwhile, in a recent earnings call, EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed the launch platforms of the next 'Battlefield' title. Aside from PC, 'Battlefield 6' would also be available on new generation consoles like Xbox Series X and PS5 and previous generation consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
'Battlefield will be available for both current-gen and next-gen, as will our sports titles,' Wilson noted.
EA also confirmed that the game's reveal would happen sometime in June, but it did not offer any specific date.
