The NIO Power Swap Station 2.0 recharges to 100% in 4 minutes

Chinese electric car maker NIO is adamant that the best way to manage EV batteries is as a form of service: it calls itself 'BaaS', Battery As A Service, and it means that the car owner is not actually the owner too. battery, but rents it from NIO who replaces it every time it runs out. To do this quickly and without human intervention, for some time NIO has developed automated stations that deal with exchanging discharged batteries with charged batteries present on site, and today NIO presented version 2.0 of its stations, after reaching 2 million replacements made just a few weeks ago.

It's called Power Swap Station 2.0, and the first one was inaugurated in China only a few hours ago; the new NIO Swap Station allows you to replace the car battery with a 100% charge in about 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Human intervention is at a minimum: the car owner will have to park it inside the replacement station, after which the whole operation will take place automatically as you can see in the video that we report below.

From the video, you can see how the station is designed first of all to realign the car with respect to the replacement systems, after which the car is slightly raised and the removal phase of the flat battery begins, which will soon be detached from the car and replaced with a charge present inside the exchange station. One station has 14 battery slots, of which 13 are occupied by charged batteries ready to be installed, and one remains empty to accommodate the first low battery that is received during the day.

According to NIO, the new Power Swap Station 2.0 can perform up to 312 battery changes in 24 hours; it is a very convenient and efficient system, which allows 100% recharging in a period of time very similar to that required to fill up with fuel, but which requires widespread diffusion to be truly functional for all NIO customers.
