PS5 is the best-selling console for the second month in a row in the UK in March 2021

GfK Entertainment reports new monthly UK hardware and software sales figures. In the UK, PS5 is the best-selling console for the second month in a row. In second position we find Xbox Series X | S and in third Nintendo Switch: for the first time in years the console of the Kyoto house reaches the last position of the podium.

Having said that, it must however be noted that Nintendo Switch continues to sell very well. Sales in the first three months of 2021 are 13.6% higher than those of the first three months of 2020: a remarkable result for a console that is now entering its fifth year of life. PS5 and Xbox Series X | S, however, managed to get the top two positions thanks to the arrival of new stocks.

March 2021, from the console point of view, was not a record month, but it is cause of the fact that March 2020 had seen the start of quarantines for COVID-19, which in turn caused a surge in purchases of gaming machines. Specifically, 217,268 consoles were sold in the UK in the reference period: an impressive number, but still 7.6% lower than in the same period of 2020.

Speaking of boxed games, however, it has exceeded one million units in March 2021, a figure of 20% lower than in the same period of 2020. The ranking, which you can see in full form just below, is dominated by Nintendo Switch titles such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Monster Hunter Rise, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe and Super Mario 3D All-Stars. However, there is a PS5 title, precisely Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo) Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Nintendo) Monster Hunter Rise (Capcom) Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Sony) Mario Kart 8: Deluxe (Nintendo) Super Mario 3D All-Stars (Nintendo) FIFA 21 (EA) Minecraft: Switch Edition (Nintendo / Mojang) Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (Activision) Grand Theft Auto 5 (Rockstar) Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo) Assassin's Creed: Valhalla ( Ubisoft) Minecraft Dungeons (Microsoft) Super Mario Odyssey (Nintendo) Luigi's Mansion 3 (Nintendo) Just Dance 2021 (Ubisoft) Watch Dogs Legion (Ubisoft) 51 Worldwide Games (Nintendo) Pokémon Sword (Nintendo) LEGO Harry Potter Collection (Warner Bros)

The data of the accessories for the month of March 2021 are then indicated. Sony is in first place, just above Turtle Beach. Success is driven by PS5 accessories, such as the DualSense (number 1 of the month), Pulse 3D headset (number 5) and the DualSense charging station (number 7). In March, 886,091 gaming accessories were sold in the UK.

We also found that the PS5 sold more than the PS Vita, Wii U and Dreamcast in the UK in just 5 months.
