‘Pokemon GO’ Friendship Day: Dates/ Times, Bonuses And Spawns
Pokemon GO
Credit: NianticDate and Time: This is actually sort of an interesting one! Community Day used to be three hours long, but Niantic extended it as part of a slew of changes due to COVID-19 and related lockdowns. That means the return of a 3-hour event in the form of Friendship Day is particularly noteworthy, a little glimpse of normalcy.
Pokemon GO Friendship Day takes place on Saturday, April 24, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time
Spawns and Collection: Friendship Day is grass-type themed, not necessarily because grass types are particularly friendly but presumably because it also coincides with these sustainability events. There will also be green confetti around, and a collection challenge that rewards a whopping 175,000 XP when completed.
Trading Bonuses: This is sort of the bulk of the Friendship part of Friendship Day. We’re getting an increased chance of lucky trades with friends, which is going to be the part of the event that appeals to hardcore players. Trade distance is increasing to 40km, which covers most good-sized cities.
The increased lucky chance lasts until 5:00 PM local time, but it does not look like the increased trade distance does.
Other Bonuses: These aren’t so much frienship-oriented, but they’re handy nonetheless:
It’s that catch bonus that has me most interested: throw a lucky egg on that and you’re looking at 6,000 XP for an excellent throw, which is pretty valuable now that we’re going above level 40. I hope Bellsprout is around, because that’s a grass-type that is fairly easy to hit excellents on.
And that’s it: sort of an odd little event, to be honest. I think it would feel more like a friendship day if we had other related bonuses, like better gifts, damage bonuses in raids or something else along those lines. As such it’s most a lucky Pokemon event, which is fine in and of itself but fairly contained. I’ll still be out grinding with that lucky egg and trying to finish the collection challenge.
