Cyberpunk 2077: Data finders find new quests in the game data

Cyberpunk 2077

After the release of Update 1.2 two weeks ago, dataminers took a close look at the game data in order to find some clues about new content for Cyberpunk 2077. In the process, they came across unknown quests that have not yet been used in the game. Maybe these are new missions of a DLC that is currently planned at CD Projekt. So far nothing has been confirmed here.

In an interview with Eurogamer, one of the modders commented on the details of these discoveries. Accordingly, all main quests of Cyberpunk 2077 are divided into three categories in the game data. The prologue, part 1 and the epilogue have been given names from "q000 to q204". The new tasks have been given the designation "q301". In addition, the name "story-ep1" was found in the game data. Possibly another hint of an upcoming story DLC.

After the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, dataminers only found five files related to "ep1". Since the release of Update 1.2 there are now 220 files. Many of the quests contain placeholder texts and do not allow any conclusions to be drawn about the possible content. Although there are references to unknown characters such as Wagner or a group called Kurtz Militia, further details are currently unclear. CD Projekt Red plans to release new DLCs for Cyberpunk 2077 (buy now € 42.99) this year. A next-gen version for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S is currently in development.

‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Patch 1.2 Datamining Uncovers Likely DLC Quests

Cyberpunk 2077

CDPR

Cyberpunk just rolled out its enormous 1.2 patch, and dataminers have been digging through what got added ever since. And it’s more than just fixes, it turns out.

Dataminer Romulus has turned up some interesting things from 1.2, verified by Eurogamer, at what seems to be pointing toward specific DLC quests. These could either be tied to coming free DLC in this first half of the year (allegedly) or laying the groundwork for a larger, paid DLC further in the future. But what’s clear is that these files were added recently, so it’s not just cut content lingering around from the base game.

Among the highlights of what has been found, we have:

  • All of these are under the umbrella of the name “story-ep1” in the files.
  • Episode 1 files contain some plots for “street stories” which appear to be smaller, gig-like quests.
  • One has two characters talking about someone named Wagner.
  • Another story is a hostage situation involving the “Kurtz Militia.”
  • One has us finding a hidden den of netrunners and there’s something about a bomb in a swimming pool.
  • There’s one quest that has a more full description than the others, involving a character we need to rescue from the Scavengers. There’s a new location called “Newcomer’s Haven” which is supposed to be an unfinished church that is now a shelter. The quest is likely in Pacifica as it’s assigned by Mr. Hands. In fact, most of these appear to be in Pacifica, as Mr. Hands is involved in many of them.

Past these quests, there’s also supposed to be content supplement “existing” story arcs, dialogue or texts for main characters or side quest characters, though the specific ones aren’t mentioned. That could be anything from new phone calls to fully new missions. Also there will be new photo mode poses.

All of this sounds like what might be the free DLC content to me, or at least the mission-based part of it. If we’re going on The Witcher 3’s free DLC, the quests there were short and small comparatively, and I was expecting the Cyberpunk free DLC to bring more “gig” type side quests, which appears to be exactly what most of these are, if they’re one-off stories assigned by fixer Mr. Hands. Fine with me, but I just don’t think this has anything to do with larger DLC down the line. I am curious to see which main and side characters show back up, however.

We do not have a date for the free DLC’s arrival. It’s supposed to happen some time in the first half of the year, which leaves about 2.5 months for that, but with Cyberpunk’s shifting schedule, it’s hard to know for sure. There’s no set date, with CDPR leaving it purposefully nebulous. Interesting stuff to read here all the same.
