Rurouni Kenshin The Final / The Beginning - the trailer of the live action movies

Warner Bros. Japan has released an extended trailer for Rurouni Kenshin The Final / The Beginning. These are respectively the 4th and 5th live action films inspired by Nobuhiro Watsuki's manga.

The film will be released on April 23 and June 4 next. Takeru Satoh will play the role of the protagonist Kenshin Himura as in the previous films while Keishi Otomo will return to the direction.

Rurouni Kenshin: The Final will adapt the narrative arc of Jinuch which unfortunately was not adapted in the anime series which ended in 1998. Enishi, Kenshin's brother-in-law, still wants to avenge the death of his sister 15 years earlier at the hands of the wandering samurai who, however, has already made amends for the terrible act. But Enishi is ready for anything and is blinded by revenge even to sacrifice his own humanity!

Here is the trailer to the tune of the song "Renegades," performed by the popular Japanese rock band One OK Rock:

Rurouni Kenshin - the manga

Rurouni Kenshin was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1994 to 1999 before being collected in 28 tankobons; in Italy it was published by Edizioni Star Comics.

Here is the plot:

The narrative revolves around the protagonist Battōsai Himura (partially based on the historical character of the hitokiri Kawakami Gensai), ruthless murderer, who in the mid-1800s contributed to the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate, on the throne for 200 years, and to the advent of the Meiji period. Following the inauguration of the new government, Battōsai disappears to return under a new name: Kenshin. He now travels with a single-edged sakabato (a sword with an inverted blade), which instead of facing the opponent resides on the opposite side; his goal is to protect the people he meets from injustice. On his journey, Kenshin will find himself embroiled in fights with samurai who do not appreciate the new peaceful way of life (in the new Meiji era, not even a samurai is allowed to carry a sword) and in plots seeking to restore the old feudal society .

The series has also inspired an anime series, an OVA miniseries, animated and live action films and plays as well as several spin-off manga.
