Kennedy and Claire Redfield, the historical characters of the videogame, will be the protagonists of the story of the film which will be directed by Johannes Roberts.

The director recently told IGN that this latest film will be very different from the previous ones, asserting that it will be a completely new beginning for the franchise. "Obviously, there's the previous Resident Evil movie franchise and this movie has nothing to do with the previous ones," Roberts told SXSW channel. “It's a completely separate origin story, based on the roots of the video game series and the world of horror.
