Razer: Mask prototypes with RGB lighting are becoming a reality

Razer

In January 2021, the makers of Razer presented the prototype of a mask that is equipped with some features that we otherwise only know from current gaming hardware on the PC. Two months after the unveiling, Min-Liang Tan (CEO of Razer) announced in an interview with Yahoo that the smart masks will actually go into production. The manufacturer has not revealed the first details about the price or release.

The optical highlight of Project Hazel is probably the chroma RGB lighting, which can also be found on current keyboards or mice from Razer. Apart from that, the mask also offers many useful functions that will not only take care of the wearer's health, but should also simplify social interaction with other people. Among other things, there are two active fans on the mask, which can filter at least 95% of all particles in the air. Project Hazel also comes with a case that uses UV light to kill bacteria and viruses on the mask.

Razer has built in small microphones to make your voice clearer and clearer to make it easier for conversation partners to understand the person wearing the mask. Due to the transparency of the mask, the other person can also see your lip movements. It remains to be seen whether the Razer product can also be worn in areas requiring a mask in the future. The company requires the approval of the relevant health authorities for this.

  • The Razer mask concept we saw at CES 2021 — known as Project Hazel — will become a real product.
  • Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan told Yahoo Finance the product is moving out of the concept stage and into reality.
  • Unfortunately, we don’t know when it would be available nor how much it would cost.
  • At CES 2021, Razer showed off a bunch of new products you can buy, including its newest Blade laptops. However, it also showed off two concept products: a high-tech gaming chair and a fully-featured face mask. It turns out that one of these concept products will become a reality.

Speaking with Yahoo Finance, Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan confirmed that the Razer mask — currently known as Project Hazel — will become a real product you can buy. Up until now, the mask was thought to be something Razer dreamed up just to show how cool it could be.

Unfortunately, Tan did not have any specific info about the mask, such as a release date or price. He didn’t even divulge an official name for the product, referring to it only as Project Hazel. However, we are very excited to be able to get this high-tech face mask with Chroma lighting, N95-quality air filters, a microphone/speaker system, and more.
