PS5: Sony thinks backward compatibility with PS1, PS2 and PS3?

PS5

A few days after the arrival of the rumors according to which Sony is about to close the PlayStation Store of PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Portable, here are also the rumors about the possible arrival of new options related to the backward compatibility of PlayStation 5.

Everything would start from the recent appearance on the Patentscope portal of a patent linked to Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC proposed last November 2020 and published only a few days ago, or on March 18, 2021. The patent in question has as its protagonist a particular mechanism thanks to which the Japanese giant aims to insert Trophies in games that do not support them. Specifically, the system refers to games running through emulators and aims to assign objectives when performing specific actions. Obviously this mechanism immediately prompted players from all over the world to believe that it could be somehow linked to the titles belonging to the past generations and, specifically, to the titles for the first three PlayStation.

It should be noted that the he existence of the system on Patentscope does not imply the arrival of backward compatibility with games for PS1, PS2 and PS3 and it cannot be excluded that it may be one of the many patents filed and never used. In any case we will have to wait for clarification from Sony, which could perhaps announce the closure of the old stores and at the same time launch this system to emulate the titles of past generations on PS5.

PS5 Restock Updates for Walmart, Target, Amazon, Costco and More

The PlayStation 5 remains out of stock at most major U.S. retailers with last week's restocks long sold out.

Both versions of Sony's next-gen consoles have proved enormously popular since launching in November, with each subsequent restock flying off the shelves. The sporadic nature of the restocks has only made life harder for gamers, who also have to contend with demand which continues to vastly outstrip supply.

Here's a breakdown of the latest PS5 stock information from Target, Walmart, GameStop, Antonline, PS Direct, Amazon and more.

Amazon PS5 Restock

The PlayStation 5 remains out of stock at Amazon. A message on the retailer's website states: 'We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock.'
