It has 18GB of RAM, but it's not a PC

How much memory is there in your desktop or laptop computer? Probably less than it finds its place in the Dao Edition of the new Nubia Red Magic 6, a smartphone born from the collaboration between the Chinese manufacturer and Tencent Games with 18 GB of RAM alongside the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset.

Nubia Red Magic 6 with 18 GB of RAM on board

A device unashamedly aimed at the most extreme gaming, which among other flagship features integrates a 6.8-inch 165 Hz display and 120 W fast charging. The 64 megapixel rear camera and an optional double external fan (one located under the body) to facilitate heat dissipation complete the equipment. The software sector is based on the Android 11 operating system.

At the moment it is an exclusive for China: the version with 512 GB of internal memory is offered at a price of 6,599 yuan, at the exchange rate just over 850 euros. The good news, however, is that Nubia has already set the announcement of the global version with pre-installed Google services for the next few weeks.

We would not be surprised to see devices with similar specifications destined for different areas than gaming in the future. For productivity, for example, finally crowning the dream of being able to keep a computer in your pocket, enjoying a computing power comparable or even higher than that of a laptop without having to always carry it with you. Considering the ongoing convergence between desktop and mobile ecosystems, proper optimization on the software front could make it all possible. The projects so far implemented with this objective, think for example of Microsoft's Continuum and Samsung's DeX, although promising, have unfortunately not been able to fully express their potential.
