Diablo 2: Resurrected, two alpha tests scheduled for campaign and multiplayer

Diablo 2

Diablo 2: Resurrected will be the protagonist of two alpha tests, organized by Blizzard to verify the functioning of the single player campaign and the multiplayer sector of the game.

Announced for PC and consoles at BlizzCon 2021, Diablo 2: Resurrected will make the debut this year, so the time available to developers to refine the experience will not be very much. Hence the need for alpha.

"We will start with a technical alpha dedicated to the single player sector, then we will organize a second one focused on multiplayer and server stress testing", said lead producer Chris Lena in course of an interview.

Unfortunately Blizzard has not revealed further details on the awaited remaster for the moment, even if the minimum and recommended requirements were published a few days ago, as well as the news that the title will support mods .

As previously reported, the development of Diablo II: Resurrected has been entrusted to Vicarious Visions. The game now features polygonal characters, new animations, a redesigned lighting system and improved physics.

Not only that: all the original cutscenes have also been redone from scratch, while the soundtrack has undergone a reworking process in order to introduce support for Dolby Surround 7.1 systems.

Blizzard confirms two upcoming alpha tests for Diablo II: Resurrected

With BlizzConline 2021 just past us, fans of the Diablo franchise have much to look forward to. There is the introduction of the Rogue class for Diablo IV, as well as the reveal of Diablo II: Resurrected that will surely find plenty of love from veteran players. The former still has a long way to go, but we do know that the latter project has a planned release for 2021. Before the official launch, however, there will be several tests going on. Interested players can now opt-in for the Diablo II: Resurrected alpha, and we have a better idea of what to expect moving forward.

Speaking to PCGamesN, Blizzard confirmed that there will be two alpha tests for the game before launch. The first will focus fully on the single-player experience in the game. A stress test focusing on the multiplayer experience will then follow.

Lead Producer Chris Lena was only able to share so much. However, it is likely that the feedback gathered from players during the alpha tests for Diablo II: Resurrected will help with the development of the game.

Features, tweaks, and balancing will all be looked at. Lena emphasized that such changes are great for keeping the community engaged. Diablo fans are definitely vocal, so the team can expect to hear what is good and what is not. If it all results in a great remaster of a classic, all the better.

The road to creating Diablo II: Resurrected has not been all smooth. The developers had to scramble in order to collect the necessary assets. In cases where that was impossible, things had to be made from scratch.

Overall, players can look forward to a brand new experience, especially since every single asset in Diablo II: Resurrected has been remade in some way or another. Being able to switch between classic and modern graphics is going to be a trip.
