Ubisoft: Publisher thinks about higher game prices
In a question and answer session with investors, the people in charge at Ubisoft spoke about the possibility that the price for games could be raised to 80 euros this year. This specifically concerns the versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S. According to Frédérick Duguet (CFO at Ubisoft), the company has not yet made a final decision on this. Accordingly, one would like to analyze the market further.

Last year, Ubisoft announced that the first wave of new games for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S will receive the known price of 70 euros. But even then, those responsible kept the door open for a price increase. The recently moved Far Cry 6 can currently still be pre-ordered for 70 euros. The title should be available in stores by the end of September 2021 at the latest. It is in the hands of Ubisoft which prices the games will receive for this year's Christmas business.

Should the makers actually decide to increase the price, the French publisher would not be the only company using the launch of the next-gen consoles for higher game prices. For example, Sony is already offering selected first-party titles for 80 euros in stores - including Demon's Souls and the upcoming Returnal for PS5. Activision and Take-Two have also increased the price of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and NBA 2K21.

Ubisoft's upcoming projects include the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Riders Republic, Rainbow Six Quarantine, Roller Champions, Beyond Good & Evil 2, Skull & Bones and the new Star Wars Project for the team at Massive Entertainment.
