Third generation Renault Zoe, with 52 kWh battery

Third generation Renault Zoe, with 52 kWh battery
Renault has now reached the third generation of its small electric city car, the Zoe: presented for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2012, the small Renault is the best-selling electric car in Europe and Italy, and the third generation promises great news and improvements. Today Matteo Valenza tells us about it in a new video.

Since its origins, the Renault Zoe has been a cutting-edge car in the world of electric, thanks to some features that were destined to spread in the whole market, specifically designed to improve the efficiency of the car: one above all is the heat pump, used instead of the classic electric heaters, to manage the car air conditioning. We then move on to the tires: Renault understood very early on that on an electric car it is important to choose tires that have a low rolling resistance, so as to allow the car to proceed with "a thread of gas" meeting the minimum possible resistance. . Finally, regenerative braking, another very important detail on electric cars, which allows you to reabsorb energy that would normally be wasted during the braking phase.

The new Renault Zoe is offered in two engines: the old R110, already present on previous generations, from about 110 horsepower, and the new R135 which, as you can guess, increases the cavalry up to 135 horsepower. The difference is subtle, in the case of the R135 engine the car takes about 1 second less to go from 0 to 100 km / h than the R110 model.

The battery also evolves, which manages to reach a total capacity of 52 kWh while remaining in the same housing that originally contained the 22 kWh battery: from this point of view, as Matteo rightly points out in the video , the evolution is really crazy. Thanks to the new battery, the Zoe ensures more than 300 km of autonomy in the mixed, and reaches more than 400 km if used only in the city. Fast charging in DC at 50 kW is also available thanks to the presence of the CCS2 combo connector, although fast charging remains an optional to be selected during the purchase phase; the alternative is 22 kW three-phase AC charging.
