The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: NPCs are actually improved Miis
According to @HEYimHeroic, or Alice, the non-player characters in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are advanced versions of Mii. More precisely, they are generated by unique versions of Mii called UMii, a more detailed format used for Miis on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

According to Alice, it is not enough to take a UMii and put it in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to have an NPC done and done, but it needs some additional work. Also, as the game doesn't support all Mii hairstyles, when there are no matches, they are changed to the closest match.

The result is truly amazing, as we can see from the images posted by Alice herself (you can find them in the tweets below), who slipped the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Barret Mii, (the character of Final Fantasy VII ) in Breath of the Wild by making a new NPC. Alice has also done other experiments, making an NPC from her Mii, one from Gunner (also from Smash Ultimate) and one from Matt from Wii Sports.
