Linkem: 5G FWA for fiber-like connectivity
Speeds up to 1 Gbps for a connection experience like that of the most advanced fiber (FTTH), but leveraging the potential of the new 5G networks: this is what the operator Linkem offers with the announcement of what in the joint press release the first 5G FWA service in the country is defined in the editorial office. The declared objective is to fill at least part of the infrastructural gap in Southern Italy, focusing in part on the gray areas of the territory.

5G FWA for an FTTH, but without fiber

The commercial offer is already available in the municipalities of Modugno, Grottaglie and Avellino, but by the end of 2020 over 50 municipalities will be reached. The longer-term vision will lead to approximately 12 million homes in over 2,000 cities in 2023. This is the comment by Davide Rota, CEO Linkem.

In a difficult period for all, we continue to fulfill our commitment in the creation of a state-of-the-art FWA network starting, also from a 5G perspective, from the South, or from the areas of the country historically most disadvantaged from the point of view of connection infrastructures. In fact, we believe it is essential to continue to contribute at the forefront to reduce the infrastructural gap without losing sight of the prospect of homogeneity at national level, guaranteeing the development of high-capacity 5G networks also in the South quickly.

Since last year Linkem is linked to Fastweb by an agreement that revolves around 5G Fixed Wireless Access. The common purpose is to make a contribution to the difficult fight against the problem of the digital divide that still afflicts a considerable part of Italy.
