No Mac with a touch screen, despite Big Sur

No Mac with a touch screen, despite Big Sur
Available for download for a few days, Big Sur is the new version of the macOS operating system that for new features introduced in terms of interface and functionality is close to iOS. Nonetheless, Apple has no intention of bringing a Mac computer with a touchscreen display to the market, contrary to what has been hypothesized several times in recent months by rumors.

A Mac with a touchscreen ? No, at least for now

To reiterate this firmly is Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering and well-known face of the bitten apple, on the occasion of an interview with the British newspaper Independent. According to him, the Cupertino group has not even considered the possibility so far. These are his words.

We have designed and evolved the look of macOS in the way it seemed most natural and comfortable, not even considering solutions related to touch.

Considering how Apple is now for some time working on the cross-platform compatibility of applications written for iOS, which can be run on macOS thanks to Catalyst technology, we do not want to exclude that something may change in the future.

After all, even iPad in its latest iterations has seen tablets take on more and more form factors and features typical of the laptop segment. A testimony is represented by the mouse and keyboard support that in fact transform the devices into what are called 2-in-1. Forcibly distancing oneself from an ongoing hybridization process (which has already proven to be good for the PC market) could in the long run prove to be detrimental to the company itself.
