Mercedes Citan, the new generation will also be electric
The German car company Mercedes has confirmed in an official statement that there will be a new generation of the Mercedes Citan accompanied by an electric variant. The carmaker also specified that the new generation will arrive in the last half of 2021.

Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance

Announced last year, the second-generation Citan is the result of the great work carried out in collaboration with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. Despite this, the company was keen to point out that the model will be clearly recognizable as Mercedes-Benz at first glance.

Design and details

Although many details remain a mystery, the model should be based on the new Renault Kangoo. It features a more elegant style and modern interiors boasting superior quality materials. A design therefore improved and with the implementation of an unprecedented infotainment system.

The most important novelty of this new generation will be the presence of a new fully electric variant of the compact van which was confirmed in the same official press release of the German brand. Again, the company has not released any details, as for the rest of the entire citan range.

Among the few data confirmed in the brief official communication of the German brand we find that the new generation of the Mercedes Citan will have doors sliding side panels, both on the left and right side, and a large internal space that will facilitate and therefore allow the loading and unloading of bulky and heavy objects. The company of course has no less emphasis on a high level of driving comfort.

Mercedes Benz DNA

Although the company is still keeping the details hidden, it described the model as a result of “completely new development” which will therefore have a typical DNA of the brand.

Mercedes inevitably pushes on the electrification of the new range. The house of the Star is working to offer a new and green car fleet, with the aim that hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles will account for more than half of its sales by 2030.
