MechWarrior 5: Steam release postponed to spring 2021
MechWarrior 5 was already released on December 10, 2019 on Epic Games. Now the one-year period would be over and the title could also find a home on GoG and Steam. However, when a game is released, the developer wants to get as much exposure as possible for their title. Piranha Games has therefore decided not to compete with Cyberpunk 2077, but to move the date of MechWarrior 5 and the Heroes of the Inner Sphere DLC to spring 2021. The studio writes the following in a blog post:

"As many of you know, the delay in the release of Cyberpunk 2077 until December 10th had us reconsidering our release date for the Heroes of the Inner Sphere DLC, as well as the launch of MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries on Steam and GoG. Any developer wants their titles to get as much attention as possible, and obviously sharing a release date with Cyberpunk was less than optimal. Day one sales and marketing are so important to a successful product launch, and we believe that rescheduling our release date will allow MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries to have the opportunity and attention it deserves. "

However, there is also something positive about the postponement: Piranha Games now has the opportunity to MechWarrior 5 also to be released for Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One at the same time, thus realizing a "longstanding dream". It also gives the studio more time to improve the game before it is made available to a larger audience. The developer also emphasizes that the postponement has no effect on MechWarrior Online and will even help it in the long term.

MechWarrior 5 is not the first game whose release date has to give way to Cyberpunk 2077. In particular, the early access of Everspace 2 and The Medium have already been postponed to next year.
