Demon's Souls: how to perform a roll dodge
While parrying and blocking can be a good way to avoid taking heavy damage, sometimes it's best to just get out of the way and dodge the oncoming attack. To do this, you must learn how to manage the rolling technique.

If you still can't accurately calculate the timing for the parry or if you don't have a good enough shield to block, then you could try dodging. This move could put you in an even worse situation though, so you need to be careful and understand when to use it.

When you want to dodge, simply hold the left stick in the direction you want to go and press Circle. Don't hold the button down otherwise you'll start running instead of rolling.

Sprint might work for dodging enemy attacks, but it's not very safe as the sprint animation takes longer to start than just Rolling dodge.

Also remember not to "spam" the Circle key, that is, do not press it repeatedly: by doing so, you will dodge twice in a row and could end up in a place where you absolutely did not intend to go. Double dodge is okay but only if that was what you really planned to do to get further away!

If dodging isn't enough to escape an enemy attack, then you could find yourself in trouble and lose a lot of health - try to recover your health as quickly as possible to avoid an unpleasant game over!
