Amazon cancels the Utopia series after just one season
It's been just four months since its teaser trailer, yet the brand new Amazon Utopia series (which we reviewed for you at this link) has been officially canceled.

The series, written by Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl, Dark Places), itself based on the British series of the same name in 2013, has been on the air since the end of last September for eight episodes and although it had not fully convinced the critics, making it get the not very exciting score of 51 % on Rotten Tomatoes, however, had carved out his share of likes among users, including that of Stephen King, who wrote in a post on Twitter:

“It may not be exactly suitable for</a> everyone , given the times we live in, but it has a slow, full-motion development that I associate with a novel whose pages are turned. Horrifying, violent and, occasionally, fun to laugh at. "

Unfortunately, Utopia has also fallen into the sadly recurring trend of cancellations of this 2020, which does not only concern Amazon but also Netflix.

The reasons for the cancellation have not been declared, but could relate to the results of views below expectations or the thorniness of the show's themes. While there are no hints in the series that might wink at currently out of control conspiracy theories regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, it may have been a cautious decision.

The sci-fi thriller centered on a group of comic book fans who met online and united in their obsession with a comic. Protagonists Becky (Ashleigh LaThrop), Ian (Dan Byrd), Samantha (Jessica Rothe), Wilson Wilson (Desmin Borges) and Grant (Javon "Wanna" Walton) unearth hidden meanings cloaked in the pages of the comic, anticipating threats to the humanity. Together they realize that the elements within it are more than mere ingredients of a fictional conspiracy, but very real dangers that actually reveal themselves in their world.

The Utopia cast also features John Cusack (debuting in his debut) in the core cast of a TV series), but also Rainn Wilson, Farrah Mackenzie, Christopher Denham and Cory Michael Smith.

If you appreciate Gillian Flynn's creative flair, we recommend that you find some of her works on Amazon , including the Gone Girl book and related movie, Dark Places book or movie.
