EA Motive: A well-known brand is about to make a comeback

EA Motive

As is well known, the next edition of the EA Play event will take place on July 22, 2021, at which the publisher Electronic Arts will announce news about already known games, among other things. For example, we can expect the first tangible details of a new mode of Battlefield 2042 that has not yet been defined in detail. But what else can you expect? Apparently the comeback of a well-known and popular brand.

At least that's what industry insider and leaker Jeff Grubb claims. He streamed that Electronic Arts was allegedly planning to revitalize an established game brand for the next edition of EA Play. Grubb did not give further details in this regard, but stated that this secret project had already been discussed at an earlier point in time. Accordingly, it could be the game that the developer studio EA Motive is currently working on, which was previously responsible for Star Wars Squadrons.

Will a new dead space appear?

There have been rumors about this currently still secret game in the recent past. At first there was speculation about another episode of Mirror's Edge, which was denied very quickly. What is EA Motive working on instead? Other candidates that would fall into the "established brand" category would be the horror game series Dead Space or the action role-playing game Jade Empire. The first example has been a much discussed candidate for a possible comeback for some time. Electronic Arts has been persistently silent on this topic so far, so we have to be patient until July 22nd, for better or worse.

EA Will Reportedly Reveal a Fan-Favorite Series Revival at EA Play Live in July

EA will reportedly announce the revival of a fan-favorite series at the upcoming EA Play Live event.

GamesBeat's Jeff Grubb first teased that EA Motive was working on an 'established IP', which Eurogamer has now corroborated. In a subsequent stream, Grubb said the game would be revealed on July 22 at EA Play Live.

Naturally, speculation has already begun as to what the franchise in question could be, with many latching onto Grubb saying, 'We're going to see it... if we're not dead first.' Many have taken this to mean the revival will be the long-dormant Dead Space, although Grubb has also playfully teased fans' guesses on Twitter.

Mooted developer EA Motive released Star Wars Squadrons, its first major game developed in-house, last year, and subsequently confirmed that its next project was 'something pretty special,' and wouldn't be a Star Wars game. Motive currently has several projects in the works, but has never announced what any of them are.

Whatever it turns out to be, if a revival does happen, it would mark something of a pattern for EA, after it finally announced that it would begin work on a new Skate game at last year's EA Play Live event after years of fan requests. New studio EA Full Circle said that, 'The fans wished Skate back into existence' – and many will be hoping they can repeat the trick for another series this year.
